You are in the wrong class and taking up the wrong hobby then. Being able to describe something visually is the point of photography in my opinion. What jumps out at you when you sit and talk to that person?

Look at it both literally and figuratively. If you wanted someone from another country speaking another language to look at your photo and understand the subject matter how would you set up the shot?

This seems to be a "favored" assignment for profs to give out. Does a business suit represent a business person, does a pair of worn work books represent a person that doesn't work in an office, does a little girl in a ballet outfit represent a future ballerina, do callused hands represent a worker? It all depends on what the prof is feeling like that day. For me - what I saw and what the prof saw were never quite the same. Maybe that is the reason I got a B in that class.

I think you are confusing the term "describe" in your project with the assumption that you are to describe them in words?

A visual description entails taking some angle or aspect of a persons personality or aura and showing or emphasizing that aspect visually within the photo (I think!)

Think of it as maybe taking photographs of the person "doing their job", with the photograph "describing" their occupation.
