The horse in my backyard... doesnt belong to us, but it belongs to the people right next to my apartment building. Its name is Wendy and its an EXTREMELY nice horse, albeit a bit camera shy, she doesnt like the focus beep (so I had to disable it after a terribly failed attempt at getting a few photos yesterday).

I dont usually do much animal photography, so Comments and Critisism are encouraged

Beautiful horse! Horses are such amazing animals. You're lucky to be living so close to one! I live right smack in the middle of the city where there are no horses.... I long to be in the country. :(

I like the head portrait-- It is a very nice composition--the fence, how the light falls on her eyes and body, the hairs in her ears!-- makes it a great shot (IMHO).
Also--cameras tend to distort the nose of horses because of the depth of field. This shot keeps everything in good perspective.
It would have been better if she wasn't wearing the halter-- but hay! it's a wonderful shot anyway. :D

Thank you both :) I am very happy that the horse is back - during the winter months it stays in a barn a couple of miles away. This is why, although I work in a city, I'd never move closer (its a 45 minute commute, but its ok!)

I agree - I'd like to see her without the halter, but because of the amount of handing she gets (in and out of the barns, out for walks, etc) I suppose the owner must leave it on.

there is a bit of DOF issue with that, in the larger versions you can see that her eye is slightly past the DOF, but I will correct that mistake next time. I had to play a lot with the shadows and highlights to get the lighting correct because of the harsh lighting outdoors, but Im glad someone other than myself enjoyed it! That doesnt happen often :)

They are lovely shots. I especially like the second one.
