Great exposure on his face. Did you try to do some cloning near the colar and on his chest?

Thanks dkord.
Yes, I had to clone a lot-he was weaing a citonella bark collar! We really hadn't planned to take any real pics--and the collar was really distracting.
I just switched to my laptop and I can see I need to smooth things out more--- it looked fine on my desktop monitor where I do all my processing- but on the laptop it is noticible.
I'll have to go back and fix that.

Amazing what a difference a monitor makes. It's a good shot. I like using the patch tool more and more these days.

This makes me really want to calibrate that monitor!!
Just don't quite have the funds to do so right now. The highlights are much more pronounced on the laptop monitor--like the details of the nostrils.

Yeah I know what you mean, the highlights always gets too hot after you sharpen.I always do it on a new layer, use Luminance then layer opacity. IF I need to I might use some eraser on the over shiney highlights afterwards and flatten that layer to the one underneath.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for the tips dkord!
This is the first pic that I have had a problem like this--I guess because of all the black.
I'm pretty new to all this --pics are getting better, but I still have lots to learn.
I checked out your gallery--very nice!

Thanks tupe!
Here is a corrected image. I am probably going to print this one--and I'll work on it even more--but for now this is better, I hope?

It looks a lot cleaner! You might want to control that diagonal line where the shades of black meet, just below his ear.
Make a test print and see how it looks.

Beautiful Lab. Typical Lab reaction to hving it's picture taken.
He is thinking "OK you got your picture, now where is my cookie?":):)
