Personally I would go for the Petal one as Petal Hoods take into account the aspect ration of the sensor.

Canon says (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SNAModelSuppliesTabAct&fcategoryid=804&modelid=15700)to use the ET-60.

Buy the one that Canon made for the lens, not anything else. There are many knock offs, but they are designed the same and should work the same as well. If can says get the ET60, than that or one designed after it is what you want.

Not a good idea as the 55-250 has a rotating front end, so the petals will not be a in a static location, which is probably one of the reasons that the Canon hood is round.

Hoods are made specifically for a particular lens. In other words, you just can't say "i'd go for the petal ones" when the one made for that is the non-petal hood. They are designed for a reason.

Which Lens can use Petal Hoods.. Tamron?
There are a lot of Canon lenses that also use the petal-type hood. Whether you're getting an original canon hood or knock-off brands, just make sure you get the one specifically for the lens you're putting it on.

I did a google search and located this guy "jiakgong-digital"
EDIT: REMOVED URL BECAUSE OF CRAPPY SELLER FEEDBACK
the seller also has 24 negatives in the last month alone. I will gladly pay $10 more from someone who is actually reputable and located IN THE UNITED STATES.

Which Lens can use Petal Hoods.. Tamron?
Any lens which does not have a rotating front (either when zooming or when focusing). If hte front of the lens (where the hood would be attached) rotates, then a petal-type hood would get in the way at some positions; the manufacturer will have designed a circular hood that would stay out of the lens' field of view at all focusing and zoom settings.

Hi
They are still there, well maybe i spelled the name wrong or something, btw, here's the link:
http://shop.ebay.com/jiakgong/m.html?_nkw=lens+hood&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3911.m270.l1313&_odkw=&_osacat=0
As these are knock-off made in china thing, please use your own judgement, I dont have any problem and actually happy with the product, but other people not satisfied (usually about the fitting).
Good luck...

Out of 2553 in one month, 19 were negative. Even if you were perfect on all 2553 transactions you'd expect some to complain because, well that's the nature of people. That is 0.7% negative in the last month. 99.6% positive for the past year. You are not going to get much higher than that on anyone.
