College Daughter wants a "pocket camera", would the popular opinion be an "A" series or "SD" series?

Thanks
Dan

I would recommend the SD780. Awesome camera.

I am looking for a small pocket camera also. Depends on your budget but my shoice is narrowed down to the SD780 and SD1200 IS. I don't care about the HD video but what I do care about is the brightest lens so the #1 choice for me is the 1200 with f2.8 lens. Today I went to BestBuy to get hands on both cameras and they are nearly identical size but I was not able to get a memory card in either to take some test shots.
I am very particular about image quality and the 10 vs 12 megapix does not sway me one bit. I want to compare images in similar lighting so I am going to need to get to a camera store that does not have them locked down on an alarmed cord. Maybe someone here has already found a direct comparison test between these cameras but they are probably so similar it won't really matter.

Just got our college-aged niece a Canon A2000 for graduation. B&H sells them as a kit with case, memory cards, and batteries for about $230. Great camera, with a 3-inch screen and 6x zoom.

The A1100 comes in similar kits for less than $200. More MP, but smaller 2.5 inch screen and shorter 4x zoom. However, that model comes in pink, if she's into the girly girl thing.

I'd want maximum portability and ease of use. I have the SD1200 IS and love it - you can check out real world images on my blog (http://www.kristinsnews.blogspot.com)(October to December photos unless otherwise noted more or less).

It does not have HD video on it so if that's a necessity then check out one of the other SD models. It does have "normal" video and it works just fine.
