Problem with Lexar Firewire card reader

I have been using the above referenced card reader for a while now with no problems. I recently switched to a Mac Computer but still used the card reader. A have loaded about 2500 images, through I-Photo, without a problem. Now, though, when i import the images about 1/3 of the images become unreadable. When i place the card back into the camera, the images that would not transfer say file corupt or the image is there but with yellow or green lines though it.

I have started downloading the images with the camera with no problems.

Has anybody else run into this? Can the card reader just wear out? I have transfered about 10,000 images total through it

Usually, I make a new file on the desktop....call it images or something...then load the card to the firewire and open the EOS file...then copy the images to the new folder...I think that iPhoto may corrupt the files on transfer.....the way I'm doing it....it's straight to the folder.....no problems....
