Need some advice on shooting "high fashion"

I was asked to do some high fashion photography in Feb of this year.... I've worked with models before but I've never done anything that would be considered "High Fashion" :) But I am up for it and I love learning new things in photography! So I'm looking for tips and ideas! I will be shooting both inside with studio lights and outside... Thanks in advance for any ideas, comments ect!! :D;)

First decision to make is ... Is this going to be a "fashion" shoot for a "fashion editorial" shoot. There is a huge difference. Pure fashion is undeniably about the clothing. At times at the expense of other elements. Fashion editorial is about how those clothes might be used.

High fashion while really just a concept.... is not done with t-shirts and jeans. It is the clothes that make it high fashion. You can argue the point all you want, But fashion is as snooty an industry as you can find. And if the clothes don't cut it then it does not cut it. I dont mean to say you cant do your own take on it, Im just sayin!

My guess is you really mean editorial. If so, I would try to generate as much drama in the lighting as you can get. Passably underlight it a bit. (underlight, not underexpose!!) Strange poses are a hallmark to fashion. Get a copy of Cosmo or another mag and go through them and pull out poses and images you like.

Thanks for pointing out the difference Mark... This is a new thing to me so I'm learning as I go :) But..... I am thinking that it is going to be more of an editorial shoot. Dramatic lighting and funky poses, wild clothes and the make up and hair to match.. I'm gonna pick up a few magazines tomorrow when I go to work and see what I can come up with for a concept.
