Okay folks, you all are fountains of knowledge and have helped out loads in the past.

I've read all the articles on here, I've read people's reviews.

Basically I got some money for Christmas to buy a new bag. I currently have two Tamrac bags:

Adventure Messenger 3
Expedition 5

And I need an "in between" option. I love both my bags - the Messenger's great for taking light equipment out and the Expedition's for my big zoom and monopod.

I need something in between, I was looking at a rucksack type bag to accommodate:

400d gripped
17-40L
50mm 1.4
580ex II
A few filters, batteries and such.

And most importantly, ROOM to put in things like a magazine, or a book, or a video camera. You know, assorted stuff that just won't fit in the Messenger bag. I hate having to ask for things like that to be carried, and it's becoming annoying when I go away to borrow my SO's rucksack and tuck the Messenger bag into the bottom - it's not practical for taking photos!

So I did what everyone suggests, and took the Messenger to a store with all my stuff so I could measure out the right bag. And I found I think exactly what I'm after.

It's a Crumpler Pony Box:

It fits everything I need it to, and has room for other things. Looks like a rucksack so it's not conspicuous, and seems easy to use. But the shop sells it for £100. Even online it's more than that. And the Crumpler shop itself was selling for £189.

Which is way past my budget. Is there a bag that is similar enough to the Crumpler in size and capabilities without breaking my bank balance?

Help me oh POTN users. You're my only hope of not getting smacked around for being so indecisive! ;)
