Looking for something that is a little easier to use and less bulky.

Short of making one yourself, I doubt there are any other options. Even if there were however, you really should only use the one Canon engineered specifically for their lens.

You mean the hood, or the lens "cap"? I wouldn't mess with the hood, but there are certainly options for replacing that big, black leatherette "shoe". Someone's posted the proper sized Corning bowl lids (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=796332&highlight=Corning+lens+cap) for the hooded and unhooded 500, IIRC.

I dunno about easier to use, but will definitely fit your 'less bulky' requirement

Thanks guys, I was looking at the AquaTech solution but it's rather expensive!
