Just starting OUt

I am starting out once again....and enjoying photography. However....I would like crisp shots with a blurred background and very SHARP eyes. How do I obtain this. I am shooting with a Canon Rebel XSI 18-55mmhttp://laceyhawker.blogspot.com/

open your aperture wider and focus on the eyes. The more open the aperture the more shallow DOF.

Wide aperature with space between the subject and background for blurred background. A linger focal length helps also.

Focus on the eyes and steady hand or tripod with a fast shutter speed for a sharp image. Anything more than that needs someone with more experience than me.
