I like the second pic more. To me it gives the picture a lot more depth and puts more emphasis on the fence. :)

I agree that the second pic gives more of a 3D effect, but for some reason I like the first one better. It looks somehow less complicated... though I'm not sure how. Mind you, I really do like that "long" 3d-ish effect.
I dont know which one I like better! Bravo to both.

These keepers are stunning!

It is the first for me. The trio, trees on the left, solitary tree, and the runners, seem to balance over the the fence. Each of those three elements are "weighed" by my eye not only in size, but also their relative position along the y axis. It's as if the fence is a fulcrum, and the elements are a little off balance in the second. Sorry if that explanation sound too ethereal.

BALANCE! That's why I prefer the first one. I couldn't put my finger on it, but jfracho did that for me. I could NOT have said it better myself. That's exactly why I prefer the first one.
Thanks! ;)

Also, the fence has more impact as a spacial divider in the first. In the second, it terminates somewhat ambiguously at the post in the bottom corner of the frame. In the first, it slices the picture in half, almost, and from there, each "half" is nicely composed in of itself. Put it all together and, like many of his other posts, Martin has a winner.

But it's the second one for me that does it.

I would also say there's balance in the first shot and that appeals to me......stunning shots as usual Martin!

The first one would hands down, be hanging on my wall. The more I look at it, the more I like it. Is there any way I could bribe you for the original size? But of course, please put some sort of copyright on it. It's SO beautiful.

My big mistake was doing another picture from my first chosen one, this created a conflict between the two, thanks for all your comments and the first pic will go on my web sites, jfrancho your observations are spot on, thanks

I like the second one better. The metal gate in #1 is distracting to me.
I also like the brigher rail on #2 - there's a sense of light from the future reaching into the present.

there's a sense of light from the future reaching into the present. That's interesting. I always thought of light originating in the past, reaching into the present.

The 2nd for me. It has more depth and tells a better story.

second looks over-processed to me, though I can see what you're trying to do.
Nice pic in the first place, though I would go for a different tonal balance.
Would be interested to see it in colour.
