really beautiful to see it like this

it's probably the lesser spotted woodpecker ?
a young one waiting for supper
dad probably hammered out the beautiful doorway before he was even born

it's a lovely rare shot

Maybe he was just testing our knowledge & didn't realize he'd already given the secret away. Do Woodpeckers start work on a hollow sounding tree or do they just get stuck into solid wood?
