I'm trying to figure out how to go about this the best way. When I do a photo session I generally give my clients between 25-50 images which are the BEST from the shoot. Other photographers in my area post their photos in unlocked galleries so occassionally I go take a peek and they put hundreds of images in these galleries... Images that I would not have even processed (closed eyes, etc) so I'm trying to figure out how many images is standard for regular family photo sessions, NOT weddings. They are their own ballgame and I'm not interested in those just yet. Thank you for your input!

You are doing the right thing. Don't let a family wade through 100's of images. You are doing them a disservice.

i know a lot of people basically just throw everything up. i dont have a set number for anything i do i just put up how ever many came out. for me there are keepers and crap and i very rarely try to salvage a bad picture unless i didnt get enough good pictures or that one was of particular importance that i dont have any other ones of which doesnt happen all that often

Thanks for the replies.. I was pretty sure it's easier to look at 25-50 Good images than to look at 400 not so good ones...
I did turn over a boudoir session with about 100 images because they were nearly all stellar! I threw away a bunch but I just couldn't narrow hers down... She's so far spent about $500 in prints between wall prints, canvases, and even a custom album... and the tab keeps growing. :)

i dont think the quantity is as important as having every shot be great. dave thomas the founder of wendys said it best you can make the best burger in the world but all anyone is going to remember is the first bite and the last bite.
