I tried somethin new with this picture. Normally you shouldn't place your motive so near at
the borders but i think in this case it symbolizes the little guage of the cargo ship.
I'm very interested in you opinion to this photograph and looking forward to some critics.

There is a river in this picture?
Not liking the crop that much. Way too much sky and your ship is almost out of the frame.

Interesting break of the rules with the composition there, I've tried something very similar myself with a boat, but I feel it is a tad too close to the bottom of the frame.
Kudos for trying something different though.

Well done for trying something new....but I'll have to agree that it doesn't really work.
Even though my background is psychology, I'm unaware of any reason why it should be so, but we simply "prefer" the subject to be at a 1/3, 1/5 or triangular-intersection point within an image.
Just don't give up trying new ideas!!!!
:D

I think it would have looked more interesting if you shot closer to the water line with a down tilt on the camera and capture more of the water like that.
It is a long ship!

Change it to a panoramic crop and you might have a winner...just too much sky and not enough river for that crop.

And while you're at it, try to conform to the IMAGE POSTING RULES (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=74718) which only allow images a maximum 1024 pixels on any side.

Wow, from one moment to another so much answers! :D
Thanks a lot for your kind words and the critics! Of course, I will keep on trying. =)
I think so, too the picture is not that good...and the ship is hardly to different from the trees...I think without these trees it would may work..
And Woolburr I really like your crop, thanks for posting it!
