I brought mine last week with that in mind and knock on wood has worked great with no problems. They say not to used AA batteries in it.

Good Luck,

Lynn

The revised grips are already available...the serial number will be above 96,000. I got a new grip last week and it works perfectly with my 20D....no complaints.

I'm waiting for B&H to have them available, they're out of stock but i'll get an email notification when they're in stock. Anyone know a US store that has them in stock that ships to New Zealand without a problem?

There is NO such thing as a "revised grip". Believe me. I've tried 4 of them. The first were in the #06xxxx serial number range, and the last was #109xxx which is much newer than the serial RobD reported above. They ALL have problems with flexing causing the grip to temporarily lose connection and power with the camera.

When I have the extra weight of my 420ex attached and I give the camera a shake, whamo, the grip pulls away from the camera JUST enough, and there is a quick power interruption. However, most people don't notice this problem because the power comes back up immediately afterward. So, unless you have your LCD screen on (it will turn off) or you watch the red power LED blink when the connection is re-established, OR, you lose all your pictures in the buffer, you may not even notice.

To make matters worse, my last grip, serial #109xxx actually had the "half-power" led indicator problem as well, something that my first grips didn't. Also, Toogy has also tried 4 grips, all with the same flexing problems, and I believe his last one was from the newest "fixed" batch.

There was a rumour going around 4 months ago that grips with the serial #045xxxx and newer were of a revised/fixed batch. That was proven to be a load of bunk (since Canon didn't acknowledge any problems until long after that). When I first bought my grip in March, I called Camera Canada, and they said they had the new "fixed" grips, atleast that is what Canon told them. 4 returns to Canon Service, and I still do not have a grip as Canon has had each one for a total of 1 month each. I've only had a grip in my hands for about 1 week total.

Do NOT believe anything you read in any forum about grips with serial # xxxx being a revised version. Canon still has not admitted to any problems/fixes regarding the biggest issue... flexing/power loss. You MAY get one that works fine, you may not. But just because it is a certain serial number, there is no guarantee. I think Blinking8s hit the nail on the head... 50/50. Although, in my case I'm batting 0 for 4.

The 300D and 350D grips are different.
The 300D grips are great (I had one).
The 350D grips are a completely new design, and some say it's the best design of any of the Canon grips.

I have had the 20D grip from the start and it is dam hard to get off the camera? Also with AA batts it eats em up fast or the camera just goes dead? Also the vertical shutter button some times will not work?? I will send it off to canon and see if they replace it??
