View Full Version : Sensor problem

Had a 1Ds for a while and have been taking quite a lot of pictures with it. Recently, I discovered a very fine line that stretched across (vertically) from top to bottom when I blowed up the pics to 100%. I send it to Canon for servicing and said that the line is a result of the image processing on the sensor and it is a sign that the sensor is giving problem (wearing out perhaps).
I post because I am wondering if any one has the same problem with their DSLR (not necessarily a 1DS). Also, does any one know how much would it cost to replace the sensor (1DS) by Canon?
Any comments and help would be great! Many thanks in advance.

Did they say anything about possible way of repairing it?
They can remap certain flaws out

so hang on asecond, the sensor wearing out?? I seriously doubt that. but if that is the case then it puts dSLRs, nay, digital photography in a tricky spot!

This problem can occur on any grid array (which is what what your sensor is) depending on the pin out (or what ever the term is).

Nope. At repair sensor said that they have never encounter this problem at all (at least not in Singapore) ;) - doesn't make me feel any better. Anyway, my regular service engineer at the centre is on annual leave. Will have to wait for him to come back before I can dig any information.
As for quality, it is a fine line and unless i blow the image up to a large large size, it is still negligible... just hope that the customers don't notice them and that a fair bit of PS can help to cover the flaw.

Yes, it does put digital photography in a 'tricky' spot but that's the case in any technology-driven product. just like storage versus negative... the drives can die on us anytime - subject to use, climate, and general electronic failure... it's reality that we need to face and learn to live with it and provide contigency....
... looks like I need to get a spare or at least use this as a spare and get an upgrade soon....

Yep ... if i blow it to 100% in PS, it appears somewhere on the y coordinates of 3128... and it is consistently there all the time... sigh:evil:
