Ixus 700 lens sound

I have an Ixus 700 (SD500) and when turning on the camera there is a "grinding" feeling as the lens extends, and a similar feel when turning the camera off and the lens fully retracts. Not over excessive but not as smooth as the feel of other cameras. Can anyone confirm if this is normal?

I have a couple of SD500s, and they have a little bit of a clicking sound when they are turned on or off, but not really a grinding feel.

Grinding may be the wrong word, its just the lens opening and closing action felt through the body of the camera is not as smooth an operation as on other P&S cameras I have had.

There is a slight roughness in the action. It seems to vary according to temperature. I guess you would expect that with differing expansion rates of materials.
