pricing advice please

I have been asked by a hotel to do a postcard ot the hotel. I will only supply the picture and they will do the rest. This is new to me has anyone any rough ideas on pricing this . I will keep the copy right. Also will I need to draw up a contract of some sort? Any help appreciated

I don't have any idea what the going rates are for commercial photogrpher in Scotland, but here I would charge$200 to $300. Figure about 3-4 hours of work total. That would include a scouting trip to decide on angles, viewpoints and deciding the best time of day, an hour of photography, and the post-processing. I don't use a contract per se, but state the rights granted and reserved on the invoice, and include a release restating the rights and reservation with the delivery of the final image.

Using Getty images's website for a stock type shot, plugging in data for 1000 cards, the computer spit out $480. This would be for a one time usage only. If you change the number of prints to 5000, the price jumps up to $505.

Never release copyright for an unlimited usage.

Your contract should be very specific to the usage of the shot.

I would price this between $400 and $600 depending on the time I spend on it.

You must sign up with getty, it's free. Once you are signed up, you will be able to use the "calculate price" function. It is a good ballpark figure. Depending on your client, it could be way too high or too low. But for commercial work, it will give you an idea of the range.
