I normally never use image ready in PS CS and was just wondering what it's for and what the difference between image ready and just the what I would think is just called PS. This is in reference to PS CS and CS2.

Image Ready is designed to optimize images for web use. Photoshop is for everyting else.

exactly. If you ever need to create animated gifs or slice an image up for a website ImageReady is awesome.

Ok so just for regular photography I won't need to be in that than right? And what is slice an image for a website? yes I know I'm really showing how green I am with this LOL

You can "slice" and image for a web page. It means instead the whole pic download, it downloads in pieces.
