Hi everyone! I am new here but Ive been reading for quite a bit. My wife and I recently bought a S70. Its our first jump into digital. We needed something that could take high quality shots on the go and after much reviewing we decided the S70 was the way to go...

HOWEVER now we are faced with so many frustrations our heads are spinning! I dont know where to begin so bear with me.

1. We are currently using a MAC G4 Cube with OS9

2. All the supplied software if for OSX however we've read that we can still get our RAW images to the HD if we buy a card reader (like a sandisk). Is that true? We have Photoshop 6.0. Our main concern is getting the RAW images to the HD and converting them to workable Photoshop files for print. We're both Photogs/Artists and have been doing great thigns with our film scans/work, now we need help making the digital jump.

Its hard because I dont even know what or how to ask....can anyone help?

Thanks, and its a great forum! :)

I don't know much about Macs, but have done exactly the same on a friends Mac laptop. Just buy a CF card reader, USB2 preferably. Then you can copy your image files from the card to wherever you like on your HD. You don't need downloading software at all. The images are stored in folders of up to 100, with filenames such as IMG_0001.jpg. Photoshop should do everything you need for post-processing if you have the correct RAW conversion plugin.

I suggest you switch to OSX, it runs ok on a Cube. Otherwise you will have problems finding RAW converter for OS9. I don't know if one exists. Regards.

If i upgrade to OSX will anything change? That is to say, is it possible I could lose some of my programs/files/applications in the process?

Also, would I still be able to boot up from from OS9 if needed?

I know these arent really "camera" questions but I suppose they are related since as it is now i cant even use my camera since I cant get the photos on the comp since i....and i just keep running in circles like that.

What we were going to try, but i dont know it will work was:

-Update OS9 to 9.2

-get a san disk CF card reader (compatible with OS9.2)

-get the RAWS onto the comp, then convert/open with Photoshop 6.0

seems like that would work fine....?

Zappa,
You really need to take the plunge, and upgrade to OS X.

First of all, I believe that Apple will no longer support OS9. Secondly, there's a fabulous suite of software applications available for OS X, called iLife, which includes iPhoto. This is a terrific program for managing and editing your digital photos. I have my complete photo library in iPhoto. With iPhoto, there is no conversion necessary.
Also, with OS X, when you connect your camera to the computer via USB, the camera is automatically recognized.
I have also been able to open my photos in Photoshop, with no problems.
You will need to upgrade to an OS X compatible version of Photoshop.

I hope this helps. I would be interested to know what you finally end up doing.

It should say so on the package. If you can't find the package or manuals, check on Adobe's website.
