I recently got a BSA red dot sight with PhotoSolve mount. Still playing with it. Wondering if anyone else has tried one of these or similar? Photo was taken with it on 40D, recently got 7D and have yet to try it out on that. The dongle is Q-Starz geo-tracker, great item that has worked out well for locating place where photos were taken.

That sight looks badass.. but I have no clue what it would be used for on an SLR.

my guess is being able to quickly point your camera at a target instead of aimlessly swinging the camera around looking for it.

Wow thats too funny. I had no idea such a thing existed for cameras.

I have a few red dots on some guns but never thought I could put them on my camera. I don't know how it could be used. Now a laser sight would be kind of cool, look through the viewfinder and see where the dot from the laser is. Or how about a focus screen with cross hairs on it like in a gun scope? Sighting it in would be kind of hard I guess:D

True. Account for parallax or Zero it in @ 200 meters? :)

I personally never used it, but an old gentle man once shot with me had it on his D300. He loves it, and got some nice BIF with it. It gives much wider view than view finder when long lens is used, so makes finding a bird much easier, and is supposed to make tracking easier too. I thought about it, but abandon the idea since I don't trust camera's AF system when I don't look at it.

I use a red dot on my D500 for shooting birds with video. I set the sight just like setting a bore sight on a shotgun. Works great for video but can be a challenge to focus. But if you have the dot on the bird he is in the frame .:)

Days before I got the dSLR, I used to own panasonic FZ1. Lot of folks in our group got the cheaper red dot sights for use on our little p&s cameras. They worked quite nice for doing BIF shots.
