What do you guys think of a camera skin? I was thinking about it for my canon t1i does it protect the body from the weather in any way , are there really any advantages?

Not weather, maybe a light impact. You should have your money and just be careful.

I personally wouldn't bother.

Don't even bother. Spend your money on more useful things.

They actually degrade the weather resistance as water gets under them and pools in the joins instead of running off. They also make the camera sweat in humid environments. They're a stupid idea.

They're a stupid idea.

Unless your name is Batman or Catwoman and you want your camera to match your outfit, or if you are a rubberist.

A friend of mine bought one from BnH. He likes it and uses it when he walks around the city but the bottom piece always falls off. However I have to agree with the board.. save ur money and be more careful.

No - use a good wrist or neck strap, common sense and reasonable care. If you get caught in the rain shove it in a large ziploc, your camera bag, a towell or your coat.

Insurance for a year on your gear is probably cheaper.

If you see yourself in a position to risk the camera often, then save your money and put it towards a weather-sealed body instead.
