There's been a few posts about the usability of f/1.4 recently so I thought I'd pitch in with a blast from the past, a rave from grave, or whatever...

This is with a 50mm Nikon Nikkor SC at f/1.4 that's so old it rattles when I shake it. Nothing wrong with the optics though :). Used on a 300D with an adaptor. The lighting was flourescent and the shutter speed 1/25s.

Neither lens cost more than $50 on ebay!

...and this one's the same shot with the same exposure settings with an Asahi Super Multi Coated Takumar 1:1.4/50. Used with the help of an M42 adaptor from DVD Technik...

Yeah, I love my Takumar 50mm 1.4, I use it for a large percentage of my photos. It is attched to the D-rebel right now in fact....

I don't have the 1.4 nikkor, but do have the 50mm 2.0 which is a very good lens. Sometimes I contemplate the 1.2 Nikkor........

I have a thing for speed..... Love the avialible dark.....

For now I will have to settle with my Canon 50mm 0.95 Dream Lens
(sadly not adaptable to the EOS)

I don't have the 1.4 nikkor, but do have the 50mm 2.0 which is a very good lens. Sometimes I contemplate the 1.2 Nikkor........I find the Takumar to excel in dim lighting as it seems to produce bright-fringed bokeh in bright daylight. The Nikkor seems to be great at everything; superb bokeh, top-drawer sharpness and colours that I feel are slightly more true-life than the Takumar.

For now I will have to settle with my Canon 50mm 0.95 Dream Lens
(sadly not adaptable to the EOS)There's always the Canon 50mm f/1.0L if you can find one.
