I just received the low end Tamron 1.4X TC. Mounted on my EF-70-200 F/4 L it does a very nice job... well worth the $79 spent. You gotta use a tripod and the 10 second timer on the 20D to minimize camera shake. Color is great (thanks to the 70-200) and focus doesn't seem to be slowed down much at all. The EXIF data doesn't reflect the actual focal length with this TC. The instructions that came with it states that the 1.4X reuires at least an f /4.5 lens and the 2.0X needs at least a 4.0 lens.
I'd love to post some shots, but this 28.8 dial-up connection makes it really tough to do that.

That's great to hear, I was going to do the same when I got my 70-200 f/4 but I was unsure as to how the quality would be. Hopefully the results will be the same on my 300D. I really wanted to get out to 300mm (minus the 1.6x factor) but didn't want to pass up the great deal that the f/4L is.

I guess that I should have kept my Tamron TC. I sold it for 25 dlls here about a month ago...that was before I bought my 70-200L Oh well, Lfever is here so I'll just save up some money for that creamy-white Canon 1.4X.

I sold it in one day. Oh well, you have one now and that's all that matters.

Is there any concensus on if the new TC's are any better then the older ones? Also I assume the Pro model is significantly better then the non pro one? I'll be in the market for one as soon as I receive payment to my paypal account...which should be very soon :)

What a coincidence! I received my Tamron 1.4x today from B&H. I haven't done much more than look at it and put it on my 20D and 70-200 F4L and look around my office. It is dark outside so no shots yet. The camera has more trouble focusing in low light with the TC, but that is to be expected. The build quality is much better than I expected. Certainly better than my kit lens and the 50 1.8. For fun I put the TC on the 50 1.8 and it actually works pretty well. So far I'm happy. We'll see after I spend some time with it.
According to:
http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/reviews/tcs.html
The center sharpness is comparable to the Canon TC but it is soft at the edges. He also goes on to point out that this may not matter with the 1.6x crop in the 20D since you never use the edge of the lens anyway. For something like 1/3 the price, if it is anywhere close to the canon then it is a keeper.
