New at this...Pool Chalk

Shot a few while I was home last week, and thought this was one of the better ones that came out. Could I have some suggestions, critiques? Would it have been better in color, or does the black and white work? I'm new to digital photography, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I see some weird patternization in the bokeh. Do you see this in the original?

You know, I didn't really notice the patterns in the background there until you mentioned it, and when I went back to the original, I didn't see it there in either color or black and white. I think it must have shown up when I started messing with the filters and the coloring on the black and white. That's something I'll have to watch for in the future.
