Loses when opening and closing compressed files

When opening and closing compresses file( jPeg), do these loses occur went opening and closing these files, or only when you save them. Please explain. Thanks:confused:

Only when you save them because they compress again. Each time you compress, some thing gets thrown away.

So the best idea is to cut your losses (it started as compressed, you can't do anything about that now) and save it as TIFF.
