Heres a couple of shots that I got this evening in a lightning show that went on. The second one hit the farm building.

Great pics Bryan, id love to take some lightning pics but not that good yet, still learning, and trying to pluck up courage to post pics for critique.
What I wanted to ask was you and most other people here post pics like they are framed and with copyright notices etc on them with titles and equipment used, what software do you use to do that?
Many thanks,
Colin aka Technium

Wow! I wouldn't have wanted to be at the bottom of either of those strokes. The first illustrates an important fact about lightning - it can travel sideways as well as downwards. That is one reason for the old adage - when you first hear thunder, head for safe cover.

Fascinating shots with wonderful color and light. How in the world did you capture lightning at 1/50 second?

Hand held in burst mode. They say you have to be lucky to be good. In this case I was lucky. I got 5 frames of the second strike and this was the only one remotely in focus.

Thanks for the reply. It's the only way I could figure too. I generally use the tripod and hold the shutter open for 30+ seconds hoping for a strike.

Ohhhh.... found one more that I kind of liked. Can't believe I got this one at 1/25 sec, handheld.

Great shots. I think the last one is the best in term of photo quality, but the light (car headlight???) from the foreground is a little distracting to me.

How do u keep the shutter open in the early evening hours waiting for a strike. With out blowing the image with so much lite?

You stop it down. These images were taken at f1.8, ISO 800. You can stop it down to f22 or more and drop the ISO to 100. And it tends to make them real crisp too.
I like the last one best of the set. Horizon could use a little straigtening though....or is that the curve of the earth?
