This is my brand-new daughter. This picture was taken by me in the hospital less than 24-hours after birth. She was born at 36 weeks, 5lb 15 oz and 18 1/2 inches.

Please comment and critique. I'd like advice on how to pose, light, and capture newborn pictures that are excellent.

Congratulations :-). Really like the top photo: material works very well and nice lighting and tones throughout. Bottom photo is gorgeous despite being out of focus... am sure you'll be getting plenty of practice in. I don't have any really specific advice, except perhaps to search the forum for prior discussions. Not sure what you're shooting with, but the high-ISO / low-light capabilities of the latest cameras will make shooting indoors easier - great for lit'luns. I think the main flaws we see are colour casts, noise and shadows from inadequate or overly directional lighting, or overly-shallow DOF where it compromises the shot....

Thank you for the kind words. I think the focus of the original newborn image is better than the final edit. http://www.pbase.com/drhill/image/120941970 You can see that the original image is much sharper, has a bad color-cast, and the skin is pretty marred fromthe birth process.
