First time I've ever seen one. First time taking pictures of people I don't know, too. http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gif

Pretty darn good! That's seriously your first time seeing a skate park? That's pretty funny! There are 3 around where I live and a massive indoor one about 25 miles away from me. I'm hoping to go shoot there sometime this summer. They have a 15ft half pipe. Used to ride with my scooter. So much fun! :)

Anyway, great shots, especially for your first time! :) I've heard that using wide angle lenses and getting really close is the best way to shoot this type of sport. Maybe you should give it a try. :)

Thanks for your comments!
Wide angle will have to wait  *sniff sniff
And I took these behind a gate. Not sure if I can get close.
Yes this was my first time actually being at a skate park. Supposedly many well known San Diego skaters skate there, but all I saw were kids. It was a weekday though...I'll have to go on the weekend sometime.

great shots.

but for jumping/scating pictures its normaly (IMO) better to have the shadow in the picture to. it helps you know how high the dude is jumping.

my 2 cents

Usually the skaters don't care, but i went to one public skate park and they gave me as much crap as possible. They were like I had to get permits to photograph from the recreation department. What BS!!!!!

Anyway, good moments, but you want to get in tighter and also not have so much background information in it. That really takes away from the photo.

Great pictures berrylish. I shoot at the local skate park once in while and I find the kids will intentionally try a little harder if they think I might be shooting them. I wade out into the middle of the action and they don't seem to mind at all. If I get some decent shots I'll usually approach them for an email address and send them the pictures after post processing. Word must have gotten around about this because now when I show up they put on a pretty good show to try and get the pictures. It's a great trade off, I get good shots and we both get the pictures. Here's a link to a few of my skatepark pictures. http://www.pbase.com/hauff1/sports_action

I've been wanting to go to the skate park near where I live. I like the first one the best because at first it looks like he is grinding across the rail. Then you notice the shadow and realize he is jumping from the ramp. Nice shots.

Wide angle will have to wait *sniff sniff The Kit lens is wide, cheap, & not bad over f/8.
Nice shots! Try a very low angle next time. ;-)
