I have searched the forum to see what are the recommended wireless shutter releases and the only posts are pretty dated. Is the most popular namebrand still Phottix? Obviously canon has one but I was looking to see other options.

I have Phottix c6 that i bought for my XSi. I recently got a T1i but it should work. I'll test it tonight and let you know if that works.

Happy to report that the Phottix C6 works fine on the T1i.

I recently got a Phottix Cleon for my 5D2. It mostly works fine, though the "5 shot" setting usually gets me around 3 shots. I wrote the seller and he/she wrote back in Chinglish, seemed to say something about AF speed. Since one can just do 5 single shots, or put the camera in continuous mode and use bulb on the remote to shoot bursts, I'm not sweating it.
I think Canon sells an IR remote -- thing about that is that you need LOS to the sensor on the front, which may even be blocked by a larger lens.
