These specimens don't exist, according to my nature books but I'm sure someone out there will know their identities. The photos were taken over the weekend by the pond, where most of the bugs love to spend their summer.

Some sort of wasp, but it had a huge spike-like body part sticking from it's adomen

This thing was huge, have no idea of the name though.

Anybody know what they are?

All taken with my A80. Thanks :)

Hi Sikario
Really nice pictures - and with your A80! I'll have to take mine out again.
Your bugs: #1 Ichneumon Fly - sorry don't know which one. The spikey-end bit is the egg laying tube, usually in a spider or caterpillar. They don't sting.
#2 Longhorn Beetle - I don't know which one - there are lots.
Hope this helps.

I can't help with the I.D., but great captures!

The wasp is an ichneumon wasp, the long thing is an ovipositor (used to deposit eggs in bark etc.) stingers are modified ovipositors. The beatle is a Cerambycid or long-horned wood boring beatle. Congratulations, great shots.

Thanks for the information, I searched on the net, but I couldn't find the exact variation of the Ichneumon wasp/fly, perhaps it's rare one.
