Not too take anything away from John Butler at all, as his performance tonight was brilliant, but hot damn Nicky Bomba on drums is amazing to watch! I wanted to shoot more of Nicky than of John!

This was the first show of a new tour, new stage show and new lighting - and the results were brilliant! It was a real treat to shoot a show like this, where the lights were absolutely spot on, brilliant colour combinations of spots behind the band and enough front lighting making my job just that much easier.

This would be the first tour with the new line up too wouldn't it? While I have kind of drifted away from liking JBT's music (One Way Road grates at me), this set is top notch mate

yep that's correct champ - new line up as well as new set design. i'd recommend seeing a show just for drummer nicky bomba :)

hey buddy, correct :) love, love, love this city!!

hmmm, how to make a start... i'd say go see your mates play, take a bunch of pics. go again the next time they play. take more pics. experiment with different styles/techniques until you have got your own style sussed out, then maybe approach a media outlet to come on board.

that was pretty much the way i did it, except my mates band wasn't my mates, it was gyroscope and i talked the bouncer into letting me bring my 30D in with me as a paying punter. those shots gave me a taste and i've not even come close to filling my stomach!!

Yeah im nowhere near the website stage yet. Just starting out. Done one wedding as a second shooter, loved it.

Awesome shots, JBT is an incredible band, can't wait for them to hop the pond for a US tour, definitely looking forward to hearing the new lineup.

I definitely will, I spend some time over on the JBT forums as well and I just can't get over people's animosity about John moving on from Shannon and Michael. The things that I have seen and heard from Nicky and Byron are stellar...not to mention Nicky played on Sunrise Over Sea which is by far IMO some of their best work. Back to photography though...do you shoot the band often? Any recommendations on getting a photo pass?

well no, i don't shoot JBT on any regularity, but I have shot Nicky before and am mates with his manager. As for getting a photo pass I'd recommend hitting up your local music mag as a good starting point.
