Hello
Just received my 1D MKii , lovely camera, one thing thats bugging me though, and I have read the manual for about 2 hours and still cant work it out.
I use Centre point focusing in ONE SHOT mode, I would like to be able to change the focusing point whilst I have the shutter button halfway down, take the shot and then press a button to return to the centre focusing point.
For the life of me I cant work out which Custom Functions I need on, can anyone help please.
Thanks

... whilst I have the shutter button halfway down, take the shot and then press a button to return to the centre focusing point.
I don't think you can actually change the focus point as the camera is trying to focus whilst you have the shutter button halfway down.
You can change the focus point before you engage the focusing ..... but I don't think you can change it while the camera is trying to focus.
If I'm wrong in that I will heartily apologize ....

Changing through the focus points couldn't be easier or quicker. You can do it blindfold. Thumb on the button at the back and rotate the wheel with forefinger, then press the shutter button. You can't change focus points while holding down the shutter button and I fail to see the advantage of doing it that way.

Cheers, I understand that, but how do I return it to the normal central focus point.

There is a custom function 18 which lets you set a registered focus point to leftmost thumb (AF selection) button, I have focus at * and by pressing left button I can "reset" the focus to center point.

I'm not sure if I understood right but did you try registering one AF point and use assyst button to select it? Cf 18 (if I remember right) has few options how assyst button works and I have it set so that af works when pressing assyst button and when I stop pressing assyst button it jumps back to previous af point.

If you set:
CFn. 4-1 and CFn. 18-3
Then using your thumb, the * button gets you automatic AF point selection and the X button gets you to the registered AF point only when the X button is depressed. Very sweet!

Hey, I just learned something really useful. Thanks for the thread. I'm going to try it out tomorrow.
