I have some basic skills in html & I made my earlier site using html & java in dreameweaver.

I am quite intrested with making a new site using EE, but have no PHP knowledge, seeing various sites using EE I know for sure that it can be customized using dreamweaver & frontpage, but curious to know if the following are the features of EE or can it be done or not.

1.default home page color scheme & other inside pages I want to be customized as per my choice, can that be done?

2.It looks odd when vertical & horizontal thumbnails show side by side instead I want all the thumbs in a square black frame as in Pbase.com, it looks cleaner, can that be done?

3. default thumbnail is 7 per row can that be customized to any number I choose such as 4-5-6 etc?

4.Can the photo details be permanently hidden for certain galleries or not?

5.On top there is a table having 4 links by default can I remove that & instead using my custom menu for my links, this can be on the left of the page or top of the page.

6. on each page of the galleries I want to display a small logo on top left can that be added?

7. Can the search link be permanently switched on so its visible always on all pages?

8.Password security for selewctive galleries, is that available in EE?

9.Random images on home page or random sort display of gallery thumbnails so the user can see all the 200 images even they do not go upto last page

10. Do we have hot linking prevention in EE, I may not want certain images to be hot linked, but may use other galleries to hot links.

11.Watermarking all images as I submit.

apart from this I am looking for some more features not sure if EE has all.

disable right click
use flash for displaying images
search engine submission (dont know how we put meta tags in php pages)

Last question which is better to run EE windows or linux servers?

Hope to receive some answers.
Thanks for your time.

As for your customization with Dreamweaver, here is a quick rundown of your list. Please see other thread also.

1. Yes, but with soem PHP and HTML coding.

2. not sure

3. Yes , you can specify

4. Yes

5. Yes , but you will have do soem of your own Coding

6. Logos can be added to style pages, from questions # 1

7. You can specify if you want Search, Sort, and other parameters for each exhibition,

8. I don't think so right now, but there is a new version to be released very soon. Check with Pekka

9. Not sure.

10. You should be able to turn hotlinking on and off from your sever backend software. CPanel etc does this. Specigy which sites are not allowed to hot link

11. Yes this is an internal function. I use PSCS for my watermarking because I like the flexability more.

Using dreamweaver do I need to know PHP or its graphic User interface is enough to design the pages in php code will automatically updated.

I see that random photos are displayed on the main page at your site from the galleries, thats what I wanted but was not sure.

Password protection of certain galleries is what I need, may be Pekka can tell us if its possible or may be the future version have this built in.

Thanks for the answers,

this is already built in to EE... when you start a new exhibit [EE is an entire gallery with numerous exhibits in it ;) ] there is a random 36+ character "password" assigned to it to prevent it from being seen until you have completed your work on it... that section has a "make public" link that alters the password to "public" so that everyone can see it in the list and access it without a password at all... you can alter that huge multicharacter password to be anything you want other than the word "public"... the exhibit will not be visible in any lists or on any pages... one must know the name/number of the exhibit /and/ the password to access it... when i do these, i grab the special link and use that where ever i need to post a link to the password protected exhibit...

Kitty,
Thanks for letting me know about this, though I am looking for different functionality, such as the galleries that are protected should be visible in the main page but only available with password or may be to certain registered users of the site.
