My first post here. Looking for some feedback on this, wife would like it printed for her desk. First time I've tried shooting RAW and PP a little bit.

Thanks.

I would take another photo with better light;) If possible, get pooch outside and let the natural light work with you.

It's a technically sound shot. However, the subject has little interest. I'm sure you can get more from this fellow that shows some personality.

No it isn't. It is significantly underexposed. Since you shot in raw see if you can bring some shadow detail out. You might be able to see the face:o which would improve this dramatically.

It is significantly underexposed.

How do you know it was not the photographer's intention to underexpose it? If the intent was to convey a moody, quiet moment, then underexposure is a valid technique in my opinion. Don't assume that every image must be perfectly exposed. Otherwise, we wouldn't have high key and low key images.

1) You are absolutely correct that intentional under/overexposure can convey the mood of an artist. However, this does not change the fact that said image is technically incorrect to the extent it is under/overexposed.

You said this image is technically correct. It isn't. Semantics? probably.

2) I am going to guess that it was not the op's intention to purposely underexpose this. I could be wrong.

I do not think the image is significantly underexposed. May be just a very little bit and even that is debatable. I think that wat the OP tried to record is the typical posure of the dog: that's the way he/she always lies on the couch. If that was his intention than it is a very good shot. Focus where it should be (nose and face and visible front paw) and enough light not blow out the lighter hairs on top.

May be in post processing some more detail could be regained from the face. But that is a matter of taste.

IN the composition I would have choosen to have the face a bit more to the left.

Thanks for the feedback and critiques. I did darken the exposure in PP to convey a later time of day, and probably should have noted that upfront.

It's true that it shows little personality, but she craashed on her couch after running around the yard for more than an hour. Her eyes never opened, even after the shutter clicked. There's not much more detail to the face, she's a 16 week old Lhasa Apso, so the coat is still too short to comb away from the eyes and long enough to obscure them.
