I scratched the face of my s30 (near the model logo on the face) and I want to take the faceplate off to clean it up professionally...

anyone know how easy/hard it is to disassemble the camera? I know i void my warranty but it is past that anyways...

any tips really appreciated...

I did an extensive search to try to find instructions on removing the lens cover, but sadly I couldn't find anything. The next thing I thought of was that maybe there's a little switch just under the cover than can be pushed with a pin to release it... sadly, that's not the case. As far as I could tell, there's no way to safely remove the cover short of taking the whole thing apart. The piece slides on a track that's anchored to the main body via two small clamps that sit just to the left of the lens. I can't imagine any way to remove the clamps, but from inside the front panel of the main body.

The dashed line connects to the lens cover and the brackets represent the clamps connected to the main body. It doesn't seem possible to slide the cover off the track without cutting the plastic.

Sorry I couldn't answer your question, but maybe some of this info will help you find a solution.

I think I found the review you're talking about Jonathan. And I must say, IMO whatever blurring they observed in the corners... it's hardly even worth mention. When browsing S30 sample shots on the web it's impossible to tell if the image was cropped. I've taken about 2500 shots so far, and just to see if there was anything to the reviewer's claim I picked out some of the most detailed originals in my archive. I did observe distortion of one or two shots, but I had to stare at the thing for 3 minutes to see it!

Long story short, don't worry about the soft corner thing, because the extra softness in the corners is almost imperceptible. It's a beautiful camera, and I'm sure you'll love it! Before you take the plunge tho, consider Canon's new A70. Take care, and happy shooting!

hi dave...thank you so much for that comment ..i think i like s30 a lot. well i looked at a70, i think i could love it too except that when i read some peoples comments and reviewers comments...they said that pictures came out "muddy" ...and i would like to ask you if the "RAW" format is good...i mean is it necessary...

s30 design is very nice ...compared to a70...at least to me...i just wish canon could put the AA batteries into the s30 and made it cheaper...do you know any good sites that have cheap cost in s30? i saw a staple.com..but that offer ended a year ago...

thank you again for you advice
