Good - if that's a 100% crop, you're looking at a pretty good copy. I see a little bit of sharpening artifacts, but those would not show in a print.

Relax ... all is Rosy in the Garden (if you use a Macro lens  )
Seems like the lens is fine and you just need to get used to it.

Sorry to go off topic, but what is meant by 100% crop. I always thought it meant an uncropped image, but now I think that in wrong. ???

Its a small section of that complete image that is not resized in any way ... in other words it is full size, but a crop of the original.
In PS open a full size image from the camera, use the crop tool to crop a small section, make it 'Actual Pixels' and that's a 100% crop of a 100% original.

That looks much better Jim!! Just go out and take many shots. You'll quickly learn the lens and be able to tell if it's the glass or the user!! :)

So is a 100% crop of the center, the corner? Most 2.8 lenses get sharp by 5.6, so I can't see that telling you much. How do the edge crops look and how does everything look at 2.8, is what you should be asking yourself, because you surely didn't spend 1200.00$ for a 24-70 5.6 lens.
