since this lens is just 70-75 dollars.
it seems odd to buy warranty for it.

would you buy the USA version or just get grey market to save 5 bucks?

Get the USA. This is possibly the cheapest lens purchase you'll make, so it's not a huge difference to get the USA one. You're not buying a warranty, the USA lens comes with it. You'de be chosing to forego the built-in warranty to save $5.

Boy - warranty and Grey market are large subjects with many opinions on both sides. Why not make life easier and worry about those on a more expensive lens? Get the 50/1.8 it is nice and a deal - don't sweat the "small" stuff.
