We have a one year old Canon Powershot A80. Recently the batteries have been draining quickly for no apparent reason. We've tried brand new batteries, but even after one or two uses, when we turn in on a week later, we either get the "change batteries" message, or it doesn't power on. Of course our warranty ran out a month ago... any ideas? We've tried severals sets of batteries and chargers, cleaned the contacts, reset the camera's setting, and swapped the memory card.
Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks!

What kind of batteries are you using? I tried the $1 wal mart batteries and they ran out after only 12 pictures. The best batteres I have tried for my A60 are No Name batteries from Superstore, but if you don't live in Canada you're out of luck. These batteries work as good as engergizer and last 100 pictures!

We've been using rechargeable batteries-NiMH with luck, even though they are initially expensive. For the last year, we have been rotating 2 pairs, and they would normally last quite a while. Then, they suddenly started dying quickly--a couple days with a lot of use, or 1 week with no use. We thought (or rather hoped!) it was just the batteries or charger. But new ones die just as fast. errr....

I have a powershot S30 and it did that from the day I got it. The battery would discharge if left in the camera for any length of time. I found it lasted longer if you take it out if your not going to use it for a few days.

I've been leaving my batteries in all my cameras all the time. I do a lot of shooting but sometimes a week or three may pass by. So far all my cameras have been doing well on batteries. The A70 is especially economical; I usually get several hundred pictures on a set of alkalines. I'm now using rechargeable NiMH's in it, and I haven't had to change batteries during the last six weeks.
