A number of people wanted to see examples of the 10-22mm lens I just purchased. I had a good opportunity to use this lens on a recent trip.
This first picture was taken whilst standing in the middle of Highway 127 out in the middle of the desert. The highway here goes down through a valley close to Dumont Dunes.

Here's a full-size crop of where the highway goes up the other side of the valley:

This picture is of Mt. Charleston taken from the porch of my father's house in Pahrump, NV:

You can see some distortion in the second picture, especially with around the neighbor's house on the left. Even so, I'm amazed at how wide this lens is.
And, Dante, I didn't have to crop my toes out of the pictures :p

It looks great! I love the effect wide angle lenses like this have on clouds, I have to get me one some time.

Any more shots?

Sigma has a 10-20mm DC on the way, it should fit the 10D.

I know what you mean. I had to think about it before moving on the EF-S version. Hopefully that Sigma will do the trick for you when it comes out.
I was taking pictures of a school graduation & promotion last night (small graduation--maybe 50 students tops). I put the 10-22mm lens on when they wanted to take a group shot of all the students. I was easily able to get all the students in the shot at 20mm or so, and most of the stage at 10mm. It felt kind of funny, being the only one there with an SLR, and being able to be as close as I was to the stage (about 5-6 feet away--2 meters, max) and still get all the kids in the shot.

Hmmm. You must have very short toes. Or I have monkey feet. Glas to see the results from this fine chunk o' glass. I miss her already!

My 10-22 just arrived yesterday, and I love it already. I am heading for northern Michigan (Charlevoix) for the weekend, and I'm looking forward to trying it out up there. Hopefully, I'll have something worth sharing here.

I promised myself I'd never buy any EF-S lenses as long as I had a camera that couldn't use them (1D MkII), but this is looking better and better, and I do have the 20D and the XT.
Hmmmm.

You have the 20D and the XT?? I am so under-camera'ed. :)
If I had something that could use it, the 10-22 would be one of my lenses.

Anyone have experience with this lens and the 16-35L or 17-40L?
I ended up shooting my Sigma all weekend at 18mm and wide open (I was in a museum), which leads me to wonder if instead of the 10-22mm EF-S I shouldn't spring for the 16-35L instead and sell my Sigma to do it?
Is the 10-22mm EF-S fairly sharp even wide open?
I'm afraid I might end up using this lens around 18-20mm alot and would hate for it to be soft when I do.

Hi Mandingo - I just noticed your post! I always enjoy Charlevoix. I have been going up there (from Oakland County) at least once a year for the past 18 years. My wife's mother was born there and she still has family in town (The Ward family of the charter fishing business).
I absolutely love the 10-22, and enjoyed using it up north. Here are a couple samples, more of which can be seen at http://www.pbase.com/rs2

You can see some distortion in the second picture, especially with around the neighbor's house on the left.
You'll get that any time you tilt the camera back to get more sky in the picture, even without the extreme wide angle. The house would have been straight if the horizon had been in the middle. Of course, the picture wouldn't have been as dramatic, and I'm certainly not suggesting it. I mention it because this is perspective distortion caused by camera position, not lens distortion. If the horizon had been curved--THAT would be lens distortion.

Maybe not the eggheads, but one boy at the right was hamming it up for someone. And I think I got one kid busy picking his, um, er, well, let's just leave it
At least the kids on the edges of the picture didn't look like cardboard cutouts leaning up against the wall! :p

Y'know, I think that I was tilting the camera when I took that picture, so that would explain that. Not to make too much of a pun, but this lens definately has a learning curve....
