Hello everyone, tonight I will be shooting an indoor soccer game at some local arena. I've shot a few lacrosse games outdoors, so I have some experience with sports photography, but I've never done anything indoors.

The shutter speeds will probably be pretty darn slow huh? What do I do about that? Get good with my panning? I have a cheap $30 tripod I can use for panning....

Help please!

Set your ISO to 1600. Use Av mode and set your aperture wide open (that would be f/4 if you are using your 70-200). Depending on the lighting, that might give you acceptable shutter speeds. For sports, people generally like to get 1/500, but it is possible to get decent shots with 1/320 or even 1/250 if you do it right. You can always bump the ISO up to 3200 using custom functions if you need too, but those shots will definitely need some noise reduction.

Alright, great, that's what I was thinking. I'm just nervous because I was at a graduation in a artifically lit gym, and the best I could get for a shutter speed was 1/80th with ISO 1600 wide open at f/4. Grrr.... well, hope it works out. Thanks!

Omg, shot the game tonight and the conditions were TERRIBLE! The lighting was worse than I could have ever imagined and wide open at f/4, ISO1600, EC -2/3, and all I was getting shutter speeds between 1/60th and 1/100th! O_O! Some of the shots came out ok, but most of them had motion blur from the arms or legs moving to fast and most were soft. This is rediculous! What do I do?

Also, the manager or something there confronted me thinking I was a professional photographer... of course I told him I wasn't and explained that I've had my camera for about 1 month and just started shooting sports a week ago... regaurdless he offered me a job... shooting a male professional soccer team!!! O_O!!! I almost stopped breathing. He said he was impressed by how fast I've learned and how well I adapt to new situations like shooting indoors for the first time or something... I donno... Anyway even IF i get this job it doesn't start up till December so I have plenty of time to practice.

Thing is, tomorrow is my interview and he will be looking for me to take a couple shots that they would typically look for from their photographer. I'm really nervous! I doubt he'll be impressed by results similar to what I got today....

What do I do? How do you pro's out there manage to shoot indoor sports?

Could I drop my EC down to -2 giving me fast shutters and brighten it all up in post processing if I shoot RAW?

Man, I feel like I'm way out of my league.....
