A Rare One for Tampa Int'l!!!

I was over at TPA to pick up a friend. As I was pulling in I saw this in the hangar and instantly got chills! It's not often/ever that we get a 747 in here! It came in yesterday apparently, I'm guessing maintenance? I will be stalking it out to see when it leaves and this will probably be my shot of the year!

I haven't seen a United bird in that color scheme before. Not too sure I like it. Great catch though! Good luck on getting on it's departure.

We get a fair number of the UAL Star Alliance 747's and 777's into SFO.

Well yeah, it's rare in general at TPA because the biggest we get here is either a FedEx MD11 or the British Airways 777. The last 744 we got was the Virgin 744 when it came to charter The Bucs to London to play the Patriots.

The paint scheme is rare cause it is the only UA 744 painted with it, right? And as it is with special liveries, people try to collect the holy grail and catch all the different ones. You have it easy at SFO to get bigger/cooler planes on a regular basis lol. Now if I were in Orlando, they get more/bigger stuff there...

I'm not sure, as I've seen both flying in and out, I figured there were several in that scheme, but maybe there is just one of each. I'll have to go look through some of my pictures and see if it's always the same one.

Just did a little research, and apparently that is possibly the only UAL 747 in that scheme, so yup, keep your eyes out for iton departure.

Yeah technically, each airline, in whatever alliance it is in, will eventually have at least one aircraft type in the alliance livery. (my dad is a pilot for CO so I've been trying to catch the 757 and 777 in the *A livery whenever I'm in EWR). I've got the 75 in a shot but I didn't realize it and I didn't have my 70-300 on the cam at the time so I was upset about that one. But I'll get it over spring break hopefully!

Nice catch! That reminds me of the day I moved into my current house. I had a Plymouth minivan at the time. I drove up, my son opened the garage door and we realized, the minivan didn't fit. Not even a little. We had to move the mirrors and only had 2 inches on each side after that! :) I never park it in the garage. :(

When we looked at the new house, we didn't measure the doors. we went through the laundry room to the garage and it's pretty big, bigger than our last house. I never thought it was a problem. We moved from mid NY state and it's cold and the garage was heated. Here in VA, you don't really need it heated. So, I guess we didn't take care of business. Who knew? House is 3x bigger than the last one that the garage doors would be so small.

Thanks! I see you're in Tampa too! I tried to set up an alert from FlightAware so when a flight plan is filed, it should hopefully alert me to when it will be departing...so we'll see, I'm not gonna get my hopes up though cause pulling this off will be difficult because it's not a normal occurrence and it could be leaving at any time. :(

Apparently, they are sending a number of their 747's down here on about an 8-day rotation, up until about March, for some work! So if I dont catch this one (sadly), I will be catching a 747 in Tampa soon/eventually! This info was told to me on A.net from a guy whose friend called the company doing the work...so we'll see!
