Here is a link to a thread with pictures and some specs. I'll admit that at first I thought it was just another rumor because some of it doesn't make sense but it appears to be real!!!! Looks like a nice upgrade from the D60.

would the 10 in the 10D tell us its 10 megapixels? This would be nice. I will buy this camera but a 1.3 sensor would have been nice. Any thoughts?

There is an English section on this French website with more information about the D10.

ya know, as much as I hear the fuss about the D60's AF, I shot a concert in fairly low-light conditions last night using a 100mm f/2 & center-point selection, w/ the assist beam off, no st-e2 or speedlite, and it locked on instantly - about as quickly as my old Elan 7e.
I could deal with all the bugs corrected w/ this body though.

I'm amused that some think the D60 doesn't need an upgrade. Yes, it is capable of producing great, crisp images. But the body (metering & focus) are way below what they should be. Canon charges $2200 for a camera that has the metering and focus electronics of its $400 film camera. Having a digital camera is of tremendous value, but it is hard to understand why Canon could not have spent a $100 more and given digital buyers better focusing and metering.
I shoot professionally and own both an EOS-3 and a D60. I have taken over 20,000 images with my D60 and I can say without a doubt that the D60 is not in the same league as the EOS-3.
Bring on the D10!

I am happy about the announcment. It has been rumored for a while. I almost got the D60 but waited. Owning a G2 and getting good shots, I still felt that I could not be taken seriously using a point-and-shoot. I will seriously consider the 10D, but whats with Canon's number strategy, it would be logical to make it the 6D for six megapixel, 10D for 10, 14D for 14mpixel. It boggles the mind how they pick these numbers..

I think I'll be replacing my D30 with the 10D. I wonder when it will be available in Canada and what the price will be.

Pekka, upgrading this time? :D

Yes. Just sold the D30 two days ago. I have reserved one here in Finland (2490€) but I'll have to see if I get a better and faster deal from Germany or USA (any takers out there? Ritz?). I'm not sure if I sell the D60 when I get 10D - have to see how reliably 10D works.
I would have liked to see 100% viewfinder coverage and weather sealing, but other improvements are welcome, especially low noise at ISO 1600.

Pekka, we know that the D60 is not perfectly weather sealed. Does anybody know of any good do-it-yourself additions to the camera that would help protect it?
In a few days I will have my D60 in a hostile-weather environment (cold and snow). Short of keeping it in the camera bag all of the time, I would like to protect it somewhat.

I would read your reviews first before laying down my money, or I go for Tokina ATX-Pro 300mm f/2.8 instead. :)
Anyway, ISO 3200 is a hugh plus!
About your wishes, I guess it will not appear in 10D, I guess you could only find them in 1D/1Ds. I have taken almost 20K photographs with my D30 in humid monsoon weather, I guess so far the D30 has not failed me.
All I wish is accurate metering and faster AF. I guess my wish is granted with a 10D.

In cold I have had not problems, only that you need to take care that you wipe melted snowflakes off the camera and that you let the camera stay in bag (or at least don't change lenses) between extreme temperature changes (e.g. outdoor -15C -> indoor 20C). When the camera is out and cold, keep your bag cold, too. If you start "bagging" the camera tightly in foil or similar it may cause humidity condensation in camera you get wet drops on lenses and sensor.
I have always avoided shooting in rain. Some light moisture and fog is ok, but plain rain is a nono for D60.

Interesting feature in 10D is that metering is married to orientation sensor: it assumes sky is on top :)
This may bring some trouble when shooting from tilted positions.

I am keeping my D30 (but then I don't have a D60... :)) and am first on the list for the 10D... if all goes to plan, should have it by early April... :D

I know that I would not recommend it, but I have shot with my D30 and 28-70L in rain (when it couldn't be avoided), and all survived OK. Of course, I left the camera out of the bag for the next day, letting it dry out, but these things are not as fragile and damage prone as some people believe...
They are not guarranteed to be weatherproof by Canon, but then I'd like to see anyone take a water-damaged 1D or 1Ds back to Canon and see how they successfully claim that it should have handled the weather better... :)

Interesting. I assume this is only in "evaluative" mode?

Are you sure?, what about "The Gray Market" syndrome!
you know, will have the wrong manuals - warrenty not valid etc etc.
Only buy from us - our stock is Genuine (UK) (US) (German) (French) etc etc
not imported Gray Market. LOL

Look! Look! Look! Here is the largest bunch of satisfied Canon customers I have seen among many boards! Too much I have heard whinning about the sharp drop in price of EOS 10D (or D10?). Gee, who cares, so long as my D30 is still shooting and just crossed 20K mark last Sunday!
Anyway, enjoy yourselves!

For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone would complain about Canon bringing out a great DSLR at a great price! Why are people so worried about the resale value of their DSLRs? ??? This never used to be the case with film EOS bodies, and certainly never with anything older than the EOS line. You bought a camera that you knew would do what you wanted it to do, and that was that!
Maybe that's what people should do! Personally, I bought a D30 after I made sure that it would provide me with the pictures I wanted to make. Just because it's been improved upon doesn't make it a bad camera now! It still takes the same pictures it did when it was the biggest thing on the block...
Yes, I'm buying the EOS 10D, but I am also keeping my D30 (it's still a great camera). I never bought it as an investment, and anyone buying a camera for investment is really setting themselves up for disappointment! (And don't start about Leica gear, it's still shaky investment material... unless you never want to actually use it...).
So, if you HAVE to sell your D30/60 before you can afford to upgrade, then get the most you can for it and move on. If you can't afford to upgrade, then be happy with what you have, but DON'T WHINGE about Canon REDUCING THEIR PRICING, for crying out loud! That makes no sense at all...

Rudi,
There can't be two views. :D I am with you on this one. I read a lot of these "noise" from some "respected" Canon users out there. I may not have the money right now but even if I ever get another Canon (sorry other manufacturer, you all were too late!) body, D30 is here, even if it were broken. :p
Enjoy your new (and old) camera then!
Griffin.

Re the weather proofing of cameras mentioned above...
I remembered seeing this when I was looking for an underwater case for my D60.
