Playful stilts

Saw this pair early morning. C/C welcome.

Cool! I don't think I've ever seen one.
Is that one in #1 standing on a root, or did he catch something?

Nice! I've never seen such birds, are they actually called stilts? The blur of the wings in the first photo give it a nice "action" feel.

Tupe, I think he caught some mud/root when he was chasing the other one.
Lucky, that was the 1st time i saw them(a week ago) too. Stilt is a wading bird (Himantopus mexicanus) that ranges from the United States to Peru and Brazil and is related to the avocet.

I need to go back there and catch them in flight.

I have yet to see Black necked stilts:( But they stop by NJ every summer so there are bound to be some sightings. Nice shots!!!

Dan, an extra 100mm reach would definitely help, expecially with IS. I told my gf no need birthday+Valentine's+Christmas presents for me for the next 10 years if she gets me the 100-400L IS. :D
