Hi
There is a dead pixel in the lcd of my new 20D. Is this enough reason to return it?
I know that with computer lcds the manufacturers usually insist on a certain number of dead pixel's before agreeing to replace the screen.

If you don't think it's acceptable ask your supplier for a return authorisation. It's really your call, then theirs.

I believe Canon is the same....It never hurts to call and ask though. It is a tough pill to swallow that you pay all of this money for an item and expect it to be to your standards. Electronics will be electronics I guess...

You can actually see one dead pixel on the lcd display? If I'm interpreting this right it shows as dead on the lcd display and not the output image. If that is the case, I wouldn't worry about it but if still under warranty it is worth a shot.

Thanks for your replies.
Yes, it's just on the lcd, not on the image. I had one on a laptop display once. It's not really a big deal, I suppose it's just that if you spend that sort of cash you want something perfect. I will call them tomorrow.
I have to say thoiugh, this is an amazing camera. I have held 20D's many times over the past few months while considering the purchase, but to hold it and use it is better yet. Such a natural grip, and with my larger lenses it feels solid and balanced. I am very impressed.

Pelao,
According to the manual, Canon says this is not considered a defect, blah, blah, much like an LCD monitor.
However, when I bought my first camera, an S30, I returned 3 of them for dead pixels!
Then, when I bought my second camera, a G3, I returned 2 of them for dead pixels!
Luckily the place that I bought them has a no questions asked return policy for 30 days.
I think they are getting better because both my 300D and 20D were perfect the first time.

Hi drisley,
yes, I read that last night (of course I played with my new toy before attending to the manual). I think I will discuss it with them and see what they say.
