Hi
Just installed EE on an external server, and I get this error message
16. ERROR: unable to connect to local ftp server 'localhost' (server not responding in 5 seconds)
server: localhost
port: 21
errno: 111
errstr: Connection refused
timeout: 5
17. ERROR: unable to connect to local ftp server '127.0.0.1' (server not responding in 5 seconds)
server: localhost
port: 21
errno: 111
errstr: Connection refused
timeout: 5
Everything works fine testing FTP, I can upload to server, and all size paths and sizing works great.
I can't find "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" in any setttings I can edit.
Anyone have a clue why this error shows up??

Try to replace localhost (which corresponds to 127.0.0.1) in "SETTINGS" - "FTP servers" with the public IP of the server, maybe the ftp daemon is only listening on that address.

Hi
Thank you for the tip MMCM, but in what settings file do I find this.
I have the public IP sett in FTP servers.
Can't find the localhost or 127.0.0.0 setting anyware.

On the left side on the EE Admin web page, scroll down, look for the "SETTINGS" section and the click "FTP servers"

Interesting. I'm using localhost here, and it works fine.
Maybe you should try that too, if you didn't until now.

Localhost and 127.0.0.0 work fine on my own server, but now I have rented space on an external server, the same company who host my domaine.
Everything works as it should, I have no problems uploading.
I guess the localhost and 127.0.0.0 test only works you have your own server.

I may be having a problem with this as well.
I am only using a remote server at my web host provider. I have no server at Home.
In the FTP Server Setup in EE there are two input areas for server info. One is called FTP Servers and other is called EE Home FTP Server.
What is the difference here? Is the EE Home FTP Server used only if you have a server of your own? One thing about this entry form is that it has a field for "ftp path to EE root" and the other entry form for FTP Servers does not have this field.
When I test the remote server info that I inputted under FTP Servers, it works just fine. I inputted data for the same server into the EE Home FTP and it works as well except for "PATH BUILDING TO". I get "FAILED Reason: Undefined offset: 2"
I am also having problems with doing the backup and Retrieve Photo Sizes. While the Retrieve Photo Size routine is running I get Messages that show : PASS: 530 Login incorrect. This makes me think there is a problem with the server set up???

On my installation, they both point to the same place: localhost - and the path is the full FTP path to the root folder of my EE installation: /public_html/eeTravel (with no trailing slash). Username and password are the same as for the FTP server above this line in the configuration.

"EE Home FTP Server" is vital part of the upload/resize/edit/sizecheck/move/delete etc. actions. It is basically ftp access for EE to its home directories.
EE Home ftp path is the directory you see when you log in normally with any ftp client -> browse to your EE index.php and then give ftp command PWD ( which means "print work directory"). Many ftp clients let you see the current path in GUI, too. Usually it's the path from ftp login root, sometimes path from server root, there is no way to know this without checking. You might also try to let EE find it, but that might take a long time (must finish within max_ececution_time).
Check also that you have admin temp dirs chmod 777:
admin/temp
admin/UPLOAD
admin/UPLOAD/ee_temp_upload
admin/UPLOAD/test
admin/backup/ee_backup_files
