Shot at daybreak through a window... bumped the ISO up to 400.

hope you dont mind, because i actually took the photo for some editing of colors. and wonder how you thought of the result. And yes, very adorable cat :p

Love it! The bright colors really make it pop.
I wanted to preserve the dawn feeling with the muted grey-blues. It always amazes me what difference the time of day makes in the colors. Here is one of the same kitty, which I shot in a soft evening light.

Bumping the ISO up to 400 created a little too much noise, so I used neatimage to get rid of some of it. I think the (slightly dirty :o) window created some of the look.

With a little work, you can select just the noisy background parts and take care of it with
Filter -> Noise -> Median
without losing any detail on the subject.

Filter -> Noise -> Median
without losing any detail on the subject.

You are right, one way or the other I should have separated foreground from background and adjusted them individually. Thanks for calling me on my laziness. Just five minutes will make a difference. :-)
