She looks a bit stiff. You want to get her to loosen up a bit...perhaps get her to smile.

im pretty new to photography and i may be wrong but in the first picture she is facing to the left and it seems to me that the main light should have hit the right side of her fase with shadown casting to the left, just what i see.

What you describe is actually called broad lighting. While it is certainly a matter of preference, most would recommend doing it on a female model. Broad lighting tends to make the face look wider. The lighting used by the original poster is short lighting, which is usually preferred.

Just look on the web for manequins for sale in your area
I bought this one in Toronto, Ontario
it is new not used
cost about $40 for the head and $30 for the wig

Took a new shot
lighting in the same position but used umbrellas instead of softboxes
I am trying to get the really soft look that you would see in a pic os the brides face in a wedding album
