For a good critique, I wouldn't post so many pics at a time. The one that catches my eye is the heart ornament. Has a nice feel to it. The others don't do a lot for me. Keep shooting!

Hi 732NJ. First off, editing in Picnic isn't great. Photoshop Elements is quite cheap and far superior, but Photoshop CS4 is a lot better if your budget permits. Maybe somebody else could give you other alternatives?
#1 Looks like you've used the built-in flash? Unfotrunately, built-in flash isn't a lot of use for anything other than fill flash and you can't 'bounce' the light. You can see it's caused harsh lighting with blown out bits down the side of her face. A speedlight or natural light would have given much better results. With better lighting though I think this would've been a lovely shot. Pretty girl!
#2 I rarely like selective colouring and don't like it here but that's personal taste. I think it makes her look spooky and a bit weird, but others may disagree. You've got the eyes nice and sharp.
#3 This is okay and a nice one for the album.
#4 Is simply too arty for me, classless git that I am. :) I'll leave that for others to comment on.
#5 Nice detail in the hand & ring, but the bright light in the background is a bit over-powering. It would've looked better if you'd closed the curtains/blinds I think? Nice idea too, but why not include her whole hand instead of cutting her fingernails off?
All in all, a sterling attempt for your first week and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Like #2 a lot but unfortunately...or fortunately her cleavage becomes the subject rather than her eyes at that angle.

Jimmcrae,
first off thanks for the feedback
1. yes its a built in flash, and i see what your saying good point. and thanks this is my girlfriend of almost 2 years and my only model lol
2. i just discovered how to use the selective coloring idea that picture is what i thought was my best RAW. or even left in b/w
3. everyone seems to like this.. i had to take it a few times to get it right with all the reflectiveness
4. yeah i tend to like things that are on the weird/ abstract side lol i actually just took that picture to show my dad how the camera focuses and such
5. yes i didnt even notice. i tend to look at the focal point more than its soroundings and cut things off by mistake. im going to try to remember not to do that lol
all in all i appriciate all the feedbak good and bad. like i said im brand new

Things that stand out to me. Selective color. Ditch it. It's a played out effect.
#1 Pop flash and the eyes being out of focus killed this one. I also question the over cooked processing. What were you going for this?
#4 Sorry, but what are you trying to tell the viewer with this shot? What do you think makes this an abstract type of shot? The play on words and color? Maybe if the label just said orange you could get away with this. As such all I see are perscription drug bottles.

I agree with most people here. I prefer #3 the best. I would also like #2 more maybe if it was full black and white without the selective color.

+ 2 on the selective color, ditch it. Most photographers that have been around awhile will say the same. I know when your new to photography and you learn how to do it, you try to apply it to every photograph. BUT, there are a ton of non-photographers out there that just love it! So if you have a client that like it, by all means, give them what they want.

ok so NOTE:
1. selective color is wack lol enless your client calls for it (and right now there are no clients lol just me)
2. natural lights? lighting seems to be pretty key. im only 21 and dont have a lot of money so all of these flash attachements will have to wait. ill try to improve on lighting
for PHOTO 1 i wasnt going for anything in particular?.. just a portrait? im not sure what u ment by that
and as for the perscription pills i felt the color and the way the back was blurred with a tiled looking affect, the digital scramble on the names, it gave me a creepy hospital feel but i guess thats not abstract.. i thought it was cool in a weird way that all..
other than that.. people like ornements.. altho it also had selctive coloring.. i guess i could save some of these pictures by not editing them so harshly..
again thanks for the feed back and again im new, im only 20 and have only just started learning photography a week ago and my teacher is the internet lol..
