Greetings from London Ontario!! As of late I have been getting quite a few PM's and emails complimenting my many pictures of Julia (my daughter and favourite subject!). I thank everyone for the kind comments and the informative critiques (I am a hobbiest so always looking to learn). The most common thing I am asked though is if I take pictures of anything else!! Well, not much!!:D I find that 99% of my shots are Julia or Julia-related!! I am always wanting to go and capture other events and people but time does not alway cooperate. Julia is always here (I am a stay-at-home dad for a year!) and is very photogenic. But here are a few shots (non-Julia) that I took last month when the Memorial Cup was being held here in London. (It's the Junior Hockey championships for Canada). There were many interesting faces around and here are some of them. Thanks for looking and as always, critiques and/or comments are always welcome and taken to heart!!

You have the eye, my friend.
Love the photos. I only wish there were a few more glimpses of the eyes of your subjects...must be just a personal thing with me. :-)

...really enjoy your posts; the Julia variety and now, the non-Julia types.

Regards

ayotnoms: thanks for the comments!! You know, I never even noticed that all the shots have the eyes hidden!!! Normally that is THE focus point when I take pictures of Julia and people in general. I can't remember what I was thinking that day but it makes an interesting vantage point. I will have to look at some other shots from that afternoon and see if I was consistant and had only hidden eyes......

Did You used a tripod?
Wich 300 mm lens have you used?
Dit you shoot RAW or JPG?

I'm learning every day so forgive me the usual (dumb?) questions.

Actually, it may be a great concept for a whole series of photos because in all other aspects the photos are exceptional.

Not showing the eyes adds a sense of mystery that piques the interest; what does that boy with the cymbals look like?

Perhaps you were subconsciously thinking that as you were composing the shot. Yeah, look at me....a pseudo-Dr Freud. :-) :-)

Great photos, I was thinking the "theme" must have being hidden eyes :-) I really like the second one, not having the eyes draws the viewers attention to the instrument and I think it works great. The last one is great too, there is so much else going on with the face, who needs eyes? But my favourite is the boy with the symbols - for some reason I imagine he will have his eyes screwed tight shut when the symbols meet. Great photos.

These were all handheld.......using a Canon 300F4 L Non-IS lens.......always shooting in RAW mode!

I actually just liked the look of the cymbals, much bigger than the kid himself, and he was smiling and having a great time everytime he had the chance to smash them together!! The idea for a whole series of 'hidden eyes' shots is intrigueing because when I look back on a lot of shots from that day, many of them are like that (totally unplanned of course!!:) )

Now I remember what I was thinking when I saw this kid with the cymbals......if he isn't careful he will squash his head inbetween those things!! And yes, they were LOUD when he finally hit them together!!:D

Superb, suberb, superb, and superb!
I love them all, but #1 is my absolute favourite! I especially like that it was taken with the very lens I now own ;)
Can you give us some background on the first picture? Like, how did you get that picture, what did she say?

Thanks for the compliment!! What I did say to the woman sitting on her new Vespa was 'please look at the camera ' and she replied 'hurry up you goof!!'. It is actually my lovely wife modelling her new scooter and me trying my new lens!!
